The Vaka Malosi Youth Programme, led by K’aute Pasifika’s Employment and Education Team, recently completed the first phase of this six-week programme and a result, 20 rangatahi (youth) are now equipped with essential skills and increased confidence for entering the workforce.

Enabling workforce readiness

Participants in the Vaka Malosi Youth Programme have developed skills critical for gaining and maintaining employment. During the programme, they have built their confidence in CV and cover letter writing, interview preparation, budgeting, communication styles, and networking. They have also gained valuable personality insights to further their self-knowledge, individual strengths and how they can improve communications when working in a team.

Benita Adamson, Youth Mentor and Employment Consultant, shares her admiration for the progress each rangatahi has made:

“This amazing group of rangatahi will be a great addition to the workforce. We are so blessed to have played a small part in the lives of these young adults to enable them to reach their potential.”

Jobs already secured

The programme’s early outcomes are already evident, with four rangatahi securing their first jobs and ten more currently in the interview process. Additionally, the youth have volunteered at K’aute Pasifika’s Careers Expo, connecting with potential employers and demonstrating their readiness to step into meaningful roles.

Tailored Support for Long-Term Success

As the first phase concludes, the Vaka Malosi Youth Programme shifts focus to individualised support, guiding participants still seeking employment into pathways that align with their strengths and aspirations.

“We are immensely grateful and proud of this amazing group! They have all made massive improvements to better themselves and their future,” says Brooke Lowry, Youth Mentor. “We look forward to seeing them thrive and accomplish all their future goals.

The programme’s mentors are dedicated to ensuring that each rangatahi finds opportunities to thrive and feedback from participants has been really positive.

“Thank you for all your amazing help and hard work you’ve put into us... you’ve made a huge impact on our lives and for that we are forever grateful." - Rangatahi in the Vaka Malosi Youth Programme.
